Low Calorie Cereal Recipe

Low calorie cereal is easy to prepare. I know you want to buy it, but it tastes so much better if you do.

I know there are people who will look at this recipe and decide that it is not low calorie. But I would argue that it is not enough to simply be low in calories; you can make it with Rice Krispies; You also need nutrition that allows you to start the day on the right foot.

Cereal manufacturers want you to believe that their product is the perfect morning choice.

For example, I think a package of Cocoa Krispies had a phrase that said “boosts your immune system” on the front of the box. I won’t even list all the erroneous aspects of such a statement.

The best low-calorie cereal you can buy has little to no added sugar. Fiber One is potentially a good option, but it uses sucralose. I buy a couple of no added sugar cereals: Cheerios, Rice Krispies, Wheat Puffs and I make my own cereal.

Can you hear me! I make my own cereal (and no, I’m not related to Martha Stewart).

Raise your hand if you make your own cereal! Hmmm, not many of you. Why is that? Is it because you can buy it and you know you don’t have time to do it?

The cereal is ridiculously easy to make and TASTE. You’ll never buy a box of packaged cereal again. I’m serious.

You can also reduce the amount of sugar per serving by not including nuts. It tasted great without it; It’s just a matter of personal preference.

You mix some oats and chopped almonds with a little oil and honey and put it on a tray lined with parchment paper.

If you’re in a hurry, try my cooking granola recipe.

I know some will think this is “granola” and it really isn’t. It’s much easier than the packaged granola you can buy. Almost all packaged cereals are baked grains in a box with some added elements. This low calorie cereal recipe is not that different.

You don’t have to use almonds if you don’t like nuts; You can simply bake the oats and that will reduce the calories quite a bit (but you’ll miss out on all the goodness of the almonds). You can also use your favorite nuts: hazelnuts, pecans, walnuts to make this cereal.

When I add dried fruits, I use raisins, blueberries and mango, apricot, etc. chopped dried

The way to ALWAYS with this recipe is to make it with different ingredients so you don’t get bored.

Do you make your own low calorie cereal? What do you put in it?

I wrote this post in 2011 and updated it in 2023.
